Well, we’ve arrived at the end of the first month of the year–which seems like the right time to check in with the blogging goals I set for myself. 2016 was but a dream on January 1; now, it’s a hardcore reality. I’m back to teaching full-time and working to find a new balance between my professional responsibilities and She Dwells.
I set five blogging goals for myself, so to make things easy I’ll just address them one at a time.
1. In the spirit of creativity–in keeping with my word of the year, authentic–I set myself the goal of continuing to post three times a week, even after the semester began. So far, so good. I’ve discovered that I can usually write two posts over the weekend, schedule them to appear later in the week, and parcel out the work of these Friday posts over several days. Even when that doesn’t work (as I type, it’s Thursday night and I’m just starting on this post), keeping up with my schedule hasn’t been terribly difficult. Of course, it’s early in the semester, so I’m only cautiously optimistic.
2. I haven’t yet posted any new stories in the On Her Way series, though I’ve solicited stories from two women and have a third in mind. This is a goal I can meet only with the help of other women, though, so if you have a story of transformation to tell, please click Contact (at the top of the page) and get in touch. Let’s work together to change the world through inspiration.
3. Goal #3, posting more Table for Two recipes, is the one I’ve really been struggling with (which you know, if you read this post on “design thinking” or this post on following through.) I have a plan in place, though, so watch for recipes to appear on She Dwells in the near future.
4. My goal of supporting other bloggers–by sharing their posts, or commenting on them–is another area in which I’m doing well. I’ve been diligent about staying involved with a Facebook support thread sponsored by the BlogHer Network, and that has introduced me to a number of terrific blogs. I’ve been writing comments, sharing on Twitter, following new accounts on Instagram, and posting links on the She Dwells Facebook page. And I’ve saved a number of links that will likely show up within the context of future posts.
5. Finally, I can report some success with increasing my presence on social media. I’m a more frequent user of Instagram (but since I wasn’t using it at all before, I confess, that isn’t saying much.) My presence on Twitter has definitely increased, thanks to those tweets I’m making in response to the support thread I mentioned above. I’m planning to use some time each Friday to update the She Dwells Pinterest board, and I’m thinking about creating pinnable images for some posts.
And there you have it: I’m doing well on three goals, not at all well on one (though I have a plan to change that), and I need help achieving the last item on my list. Again, if you have a story of transformation to share, please get in touch via the Contact form so we can share it on She Dwells!
